Sharon King-Chai was born in Australia and moved to London after she completed her Visual Communication degree at the University of Technology Sydney. Sharon's two passions have always been music and books. She began designing album covers whilst at Stylorouge for a wide range of bands including Crowded House, The Cooper Temple Clause, David Bowie, The Subways, Westlife, Skin.

She then worked at Macmillan designing picture books before she moved onto writing and illustrating her own books. Her book Starbird (published by Two Hoots) won the Greenaway Shadower’s Choice Awards in 2021. She also illustrates for the best-selling phenomenon Julia Donaldson on titles including Animalphabet & Counting Creatures. They have won a range of international accolades including the Chen Bochui Award for Best Picture Book, and shortlisted for numerous others including D&AD Awards, Indie Bookshop Awards, Society of Illustrators & Academy of British Cover Design. She now enjoys the world of freelance and is also growing a greetings card & print range on the side.
